Grievance CommitteeDescription:
Grievances (found in Article 10 of the NWTA contract) A grievance is an alleged violation of contract language. It can be filed by a teacher or a group of teachers, and involves a claimed violation, misinterpretation, misapplication or inequitable application of the CBA. If a teacher (or teachers) believe that they have been thrust into a situation involving an alleged contract violation, they should: 1) Document date, time, people involved, and contractual issue; 2) Contact a building rep and discuss the applicability of the situation; 3) Have the building rep follow up with either Sean O'brien (grades 6-12) or Nicole Pasceri (grades k-5) in order to begin grievance timeline (Section 10.16). |
It is important to note that most grievance situations are successfully negotiated and resolved between the union and the administrator involved outside the official grievance framework, but it is imperative that you begin discussions with your building rep in a timely fashion (Section 10.16). Also, unless the situation involves a health and safety risk, you must carry out the orders of your administrator before later filing a grievance.
